TW WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LEGEND RETIRES
Taiwan women's basketball legend, Chien Wei-chuan has just announced her retirement as an athlete in the world of basketball, after playing it for 26 years.
Looking ahead, Chien said at the ceremony, that this is just a beginning of another chapter in her life, because she will continue to take part in her favorite sport in other ways.
Taking the stage, Chien Wei-chuan lets loose with some tears as she never expected the Cathay women's basketball team to host this retirement ceremony.
As a freshman in junior high school, she left home and joined a basketball team, and she felt as if the team were her family.
She remembers her rebellious adolescence, but fortunately she had a mentor in Hong Ling-yao.
She received flowers and a big hug, and gave thanks to her teacher, Hong.
Chien is now 40 years old and has been part of Taiwan women's basketball for 26 years.
She participated in 10 Asian Championships, 5 Asian Games, and 4 East Asian Games.
10 years ago she went to the US to play professional basketball, even taking part in the draft though, no one can match her qualifications and experience in Taiwan.
Chien will play her last game at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium, and said she will definitely enjoy the moment and soon will switch over to coaching.
