NEW RECORD SET IN FUNDRAISER FOR JAPAN RELIEF
Over 300 celebrities and enterprises took part in the Fight & Smile televised fundraiser last Friday and raised over 780 million NT dollars for relief efforts in Japan, setting a new record in charity fundraising in Taiwan.
Over 700 million NT dollars were raised for the fundraising event for the Japan earthquake donation drive, moving several Japanese celebrities who were dressed in white t-shirts to tears, as well as rousing the emotions of Taiwanese celebrities.
Although Japan's 9.0-magnitude earthquake shattered the lives and homes of many people in Japan, this fundraising event showed that the bond between the Japanese people and Taiwanese people is as strong as ever.
Celebrities and corporations alike donated money and their effort in this fundraising event called, "Believe in Hope," and within a few hours, donations exceeded 780 million NT dollars.
In total from the two fundraising telethons that were held for the disaster relief efforts, 890 million NT dollars were raised, far exceeding the 770 million NT dollar amount that was raised for the Typhoon Morakot disaster of 2009.
Indeed, the massive earthquake that struck Japan also struck the compassionate hearts of the Taiwanese people.
