EX-PRESIDENT SHOWS SUPPORT FOR TSAI
DPP Chairperson and presidential hopeful Tsai Ing-wen visited former President Lee Teng-hui on Thursday, trying to win the senior politician's support in the upcoming election. Tsai later said that Lee gave her "ample praise" for her performance in the past few years, and also wished her luck in the presidential race.
After meeting with former American Institute in Taiwan Director Doug Paal on Thursday afternoon, DPP Chairperson Tsai Ing-wen paid a visit to former President Lee Teng-hui in the hopes of gaining his support.
During Tsai's meeting with Lee, which lasted for approximately one hour and forty minutes, Lee presented her with his new book on the 921 earthquake.
Afterwards, Lee walked Tsai out to her car and wished her success. When asked whether Lee had any opinions on her selection for running mate, Tsai said that it is still too early to discuss the issue.
It is widely believed that neither Tsai nor Su Tseng-chang is willing to take a backseat to the other, and that talks between the two have broken down.
Su, however, says that only a Su-Tsai ticket can unite the DPP.
Former Vice President Annette Lu has also announced her intentions of running, and many expect what is currently a three-way race to be expanded even further once candidates can start registering for the primaries.
