TSAI ING-WEN DECLARES PRESIDENTIAL BID
DPP Chairperson Tsai Ing-wen declared her presidential bid in a press conference yesterday morning. In a statement
Many senior pro-independence DPP members were in attendance to show their support for Tsai, but other presidential hopefuls of the party, including Su Tseng-chang, Annette Lu and Frank Hsieh, were conspicuously absent.
Pan-green elders and party officials expressed their support for DPP Chairperson Tsai Ing-wen during her announcement press conference.
However, all of the party's heavyweights, including Annette Lu, Su Tseng-chang, Frank Hsieh, and Yu Hsyi-kun, were conspicuously absent.
Tsai claimed that she had felt and heard the concerns and hopes of the people for the past three years, and that she is the perfect candidate to help them realize their vision, create a new future, and eliminate the wealth gap, national debt, and uneven distribution of resources between cities and townships.
Referencing Lu and Su as figures from past eras, Tsai said that she was calling on the new generation to take responsibility for Taiwan's future.
She also expressed hopes of cleaning up Taiwan's cacophonous and often violent political arena and creating a rational political environment.
Tsai further said that Taiwan faces many difficulties, and that her message to voters is that the future belongs to everyone, and that everyone should follow her example to ensure good days for their children and grandchildren.
