TAIWAN REACTS TO JAPAN DISASTER
The 9.0 magnitude earthquake and consequent tsunami that hit the northeastern part of Japan last Friday has caused massive damage after completely engulfing towns in the area. The death toll is currently estimated to be over 1300, but the total can rise further as thousands are still unaccounted for.
In response to the unfolding disaster in Japan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Taiwan will donate one million NT dollars to the Japanese government to help with relief work. And a Taiwanese rescue team is also on standby, ready to fly to the worst-hit areas when requested.
