MAKEOVER FOR SONGSHAN AIRPORT
The Taipei Songshan Airport is currently under renovation, with new convenience stores and coffee shops to be opened in the terminal. And starting from next July, travelers may even observe planes taking off and landing on a new viewing platform over a cup of coffee.
In July of this year, Songshan Airport will have a special new viewing platform where one can see planes taking off and landing.
The Civil Aeronautics Administration is planning it to be placed between the first and second terminal.
And with the cooperation with coffee shops, people can watch aircraft, while drinking a cup of coffee. Songshan Airport's renovation project is expected to be completed in July, and next month, the current mix of international and domestic flights will be formally separated into 2 different terminals.
Domestic flights will be moved to Terminal 2 and thereby creating a more clear distinction between tourists. Also, convenience stores and chain coffee shops will open.
Although the airport enjoys a prime location that is close to metropolitan Taipei, there is not a lot of room to work with.
The CAA believes that small may be beautiful and making it an international airport may leave something to be desired.
Some tourism experts believe that more reforms need to take place as it currently encounters many limitations as a more complete development plan would give it more character and make it more convenient for visitors.
