FORMER FIRST LADY TO RECEIVE HEALTH ASSESSMENT BY PRISON HOSPITAL
Former first lady Wu Shu-jen has been scheduled to start her jail term this Friday, and the Pei Teh hospital of Taichung Prison has already made all the required preparations. As for whether Wu is physically fit for prison treatment, the Ministry of Justice said yesterday that it will be left for the medical experts to determine.
Wu Shu-jen has been asked by the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office to report on Friday to a hospital associated with the Taichung Prison.
She will be evaluated for her health, and her ability to endure prison life will be decided by physicians said the Justice Minister.
According to the process, Wu's inability to care for herself will be assessed by doctors before she begins her sentence.
The atrophy of her limbs will lead doctors to decide upon an appropriate sentence.
Wu has recently recovered from a bad cold as her son, Chen Chih-chung says that his mother is currently very weak. In order to avoid an accident, their lawyer has asked the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office to send doctors to the south to carry out their evaluation of her health.
Prison authorities say that women with severe disabilities are held at the PeiTeh Hospital with a number of inmates there already with two large and two small rooms have been prepared along with medical equipment.
15 women are held with 24-hour shifts to care for those requiring intensive care.
Authorities note that they have already undergone preparations to receive Wu Shu-jen after her medical assessment.
