First Snowfall in 2010
The first snowfall of the season arrived on Thursday in Yushan and Hehuanshan of central Taiwan. And excited tourists lost no time in starting snowball fights as well as building snowmen, turning the place into a winter wonderland.
Shortly after noon, snowflakes began fluttering down on Wuling.
The snow thrilled many that had driven up Hehuan Mountain in the hopes of witnessing the winter's first snowfall, and they happily spent the afternoon building snowmen or engaging in snowball fights.
Wuling, which is the highest point on the island accessible by public roads, soon turned into a winter wonderland.
The cold air mass brought sufficient humidity levels for snow to form, and many braved heavy rains and drove up the mountain earlier in the morning.
Temperatures fell throughout the morning, and snow fell continuously throughout the afternoon.
Hehuan received around 5 centimeters of snow on Thursday, and those that drove up without tire chains found themselves stuck.
Snow and ice could be found on roads starting at Kunyang Station, and police officers reminded motorists along the way to attach tire chains to their wheels before driving up.
