Huang Returns Home with Gold
Huang Hsien-yung, who snatched the gold in women's under-46kg taekwondo at the Asian Games, was greeted with a homecoming celebration when she returned to the Taichung's Syiyuan High School yesterday. Unlike Yang who is still unsure, Huang said she will prepare herself to take part in the 2012 Olympic Games.
Huang Hsien-yung stepped into the school gates to a hero's welcome complete with the non-stop sound of firecrackers and her parents behind her. At just 16 years old, Huang Hsien-yung was all smiles and waving to friends and fellow taekwondo teammates from this school.
She had wreaths of flowers around her neck and many gave her a big hug.
Huang had won glory for Taiwan, and her achievements came as Yang Shu-chun had been disqualified. Huang said that the plight of her classmate inspired her in her competition.
She also added that she had confidence in herself, and believed that she would be able to qualify for the Olympic Games and once again win glory for Taiwan.
