Crystal Cabins Built
Spending an additional 5.4 million NT dollars, 20 new cable cars, called the "crystal cabins" have been added to the Maokong Gondola. In an attempt to boost the declining amount of passengers since the interruption of service, the upgraded system will provide tourists with a greater view of the mountainous areas.
This long line has formed in front of the Maoko-g Gondola, though most people are specially lining up for gondola cars with transparent flooring allowing everyone to glimpse this mountain scenery.
There are children holding grandpa's hand, as they look down wide eyed.
It provides a fresh view and a new start as the gondola is struggling to attract crowds after reopening.
For this reason the Taipei Rapid Transit Company launched these crystal compartments providing a better view.
Each compartment can only take 5 people, and they are in short supply as they only have 20 of them. The cost of these 20 cars was 5.40 million NT$ which attracted lots of people on the first day.
Average crowds after reopening were just 8,000.
This is down considerably from the 15,000 that took it each day prior to closing. The transit company is hoping that these new cars will lead to more passengers.
