Facebook has become a powerful promotional tool for candidates of the year-end elections, and most of them have created their own fan pages on the website. But there are controversies over whether governmental officials are allowed to join the pages thereby revealing their political inclinations. Now the Ministry of Civil Service offers their explanation over the issue. Facebook is one of the most popular online sites to share personal information and it is a way for many candidates to draw the distance between them and the public closer. All candidates from the ruling and the opposition parties for the year-end special municipality election have created their own Facebook pages as a new way to promote and campaign for themselves. The Ministry of Civil service pointed out that, governmental workers should try to avoid participating in such pages to prevent issues of conflict of interest, to which, the lawmakers are arguing that the MOCS is preventing freedom of speech. Faced with the criticism, the MOCS explained that, there is no written regulations against government workers to become a fan on those pages, however they should not do so on office hours, should not use government resources or add themselves with the identification of government worker. In addition, the MOCS said that those who violate the above mentions three regulations, will be given warnings.
