Foot-washing Ceremony
In celebration of the upcoming Senior Citizen's Day, a foot-washing ceremony was held in Taoyuan this week, to honor the elderly members of the county, and give the youth a valuable lesson on reverence for the aged.
This is the feet-washing ceremony at Long-tan Township in Taoyuan, promoting respect and piety amongst the people in the coming of Chung Yeung Festival on the 16th.
Many young people, including local officials and magistrates, and elders attend at the event.
While the young people kneel and prepare the basin with water and rose petals, the elders are donned in their best and enjoying this heart-warming gesture.
One of the elders is Ms Wu, who lives in Yilan and is 102 years old and still active.
Without any assistance, she is able to walk up the stairs to her bedroom.
She says that walking up stairs has been her favorite activity.
Since she lost her right eye at the prime age of 36, she has learned not to be too fussy with the things in life.
Despite her poor vision, she has been taking care of herself competently over the years, even mending her own clothes.
Now she has got much offspring who takes care of her, and not only that, she is their role model for being so strong and independent.
