Killer Whales Spotted
A group of three orcas, also known as killer whales, were recently spotted off the coast of Hualien, exciting tourists and researchers. It is the first time in nearly six years that an orca can be seen in the area.
Tourists are thrilled to see the killer whales swimming back and forth next to the boat, and scream in delight every time the whales break the surface of the water.
The white spots on the whales' heads identify them as killer whales, which haven't been spotted in the Hualien area for nearly six years.
The whales are believed to be a family of three, and likely ended up in Hualien while searching for food.
As an unusual number of dolphins have been spotted around Hualien Harbor in recent days, the killer whales likely followed them to the area.
The whales are expected to remain in Hualien's waters for several days, so if you would like to go whale watching, this weekend would be the perfect time.
