TOO MUCH SUGARY DRINKS FOR AMERICANS?
According to a recent study, it is found that half of the U.S. population over the age of two consumes sugary drinks everyday.Sugary drinks including sodas, sweetened waters, and energy, sports and fruit beverages, have been linked to poor diet quality.
Based on the research, male teens are the most frequent consumers, taking in about 252 to 273 calories per day from sweetened drinks, which is more than half of the weekly soda intake suggested by American Heart Association. The finding may partially explain why so many Americans are now struggling with health problems, including weight gain, obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Researchers also indicated that soda drinking, or sweet beverages in general, provide empty calories, which take the place of more nutritious options.
Researchers are suggesting alternatives for people, such as water, tea and skim milk as replacements. Furthermore, they are also reminding parents to stop giving energy drinks and the so-called 100% vitamin C juice for kids because these beverages usually contain too much sugar.
