The new optical sensor, thats built in the steering wheel, can monitor the drivers cardiovascular functions through ones grasp of the steering wheel, while detecting ones heart conditions. The drivers heartbeat and electrocardiogram can be displayed on the in-car navigation system. If the system detects unusual heart movement, a message will appear on the display to advise the driver to go see a doctor, and a warning will be displayed if the condition is likely to become critical. The company is confident about the new system, saying that it can help with ones well being, because it monitors ones physical condition every time theyre behind the wheel. With the new system likely to be commercially available in the future, it is evident that Toyota is working hard to restore its vehicle safety record from its global recall woes last year.
