CHINESE FILMS VYING FOR TOP AWARD
Taiwanese action flick "Seediq Bale" is not the only Chinese film that will be battling for the top award at the Venice Film Festival. Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau's "A Simple Life" and Sean Lau's "Life Without Principle" are also among the 22 films that are vying for the Golden Lion trophy.
Hong Kong actor Andy Lau and his fellow cast members, including actress Deanie Ip, arrived on the island of Lido for the Venice Film Festival, to promote for their new drama film, "A Simple Life" or Tao Jie".Based on a true story, director Ann Hui portrays the strong relationship between a female housekeeper and her younger employer, Roger, played by Lau, in her bittersweet film, "Tao Jie".
The appearance marks a return for Lau, who was nominated for the film, "Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame" at the world's oldest film festival last year.
Competing side by side with Andy Lau, who is one of the most successful actors in Asia, is Sean Lau, who is also another heavyweight in the film industry. Directed by Johnny To, the award-winning actor, Sean Lau, takes on one of the three roles depicted in the latest suspense-thriller "Life Without Principle". In the movie, the lives of three characters are intertwined and their morals are questioned when a bag of cash appeared in their midst.
