ARE YOU REALLY A GOOD DRIVER?
According to a recent survey, two-thirds of Americans believe that they are good drivers, and many of them rate others as poor drivers. However, interestingly, many of the drivers admit to carrying out unsafe driving practices, such as multitasking when driving.
45 percent of drivers have driven while they are very tired, while 15 percent of drivers have driven while intoxicated. 34 percent of drivers have sent a text message or email when they are behind the wheel.
So why do we blame other people for their bad driving habits but excuse ourselves for the same behavior? Psychologist says its because we often blame our own behavior on circumstance, such as running late for an appointment, and we blame others' behavior on general characteristics, such as He must be a bad driver.
Furthermore, expert indicate that most people think its not a big deal to occasionally violate traffic laws, such as running through a red light or talking on the phone when driving. However, experts say that attitude can be potentially deadly. With over 30,000 people dying in car crashes every year and hundreds of thousands more injured, experts are suggesting people to pay more attention to their driving, for the sake of their own safety and others.
