TW TO ALLOW SOLO CHINESE TOURISTS IN JUNE
The head of the Beijing's Taiwan Affairs Office, Wang Yi has announced Monday that individual Chinese tourists will be able to visit Taiwan starting June 28th. However, the Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan is saying otherwise, stressing that the official announcement will not be made before receiving an approval from the Executive Yuan.##
[1]The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) stressed that, it hopes that the individual Chinese tourists can come visit Taiwan as soon as possible, with a goal set at the end of this month.
However, the announcement from Beijing has triggered criticism from DPP lawmakers.
DPP lawmakers criticized the Ma administration for allowing the Chinese government to make the announcement before receiving confirmation from Taiwan, which is making Taiwan a province of China.
In response to the criticism, the MAC pointed out that, the travel associations from both sides are still negotiating the content of the related documents.
The documents will later go through the approval from China's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait (ARATS) and Taiwan'
s Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) before being delivered to the Executive Yuan and the Ministry of Communications and Transportation for approval.
The MAC will make official announcement after receiving the approval from the Executive Yuan.
The MAC said that, the current goal for both sides is to allow individual travelers from China to visit Taiwan before the end of the month, and they will try their best to achieve it.
However, no official announcement can be made until the reviewing process is completed.
Even though Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council has not yet confirmed the announcement from Beijing, the announcement was considered as a chance for the airline business to revive.
Eva Air said that the businesses of airline companies have plummeted over Japan's earthquake, and several major disasters caused by abnormal climates around the world. It is not until now that airline company's business has started to show some signs of improvement.
And as more individual Chinese tourists are visiting Taiwan soon, the business performance is expected to be better than the previous quarter, as long as the oil price does not go up.
