DR. SUN YAT-SEN AN AMERICAN?
Dr. Sun Yat-sen is universally acknowledged as the founding father and first president of the Republic of China, but a newly found U.S. official document indicates that he was an American citizen.
Moreover, the document even lists Sun's birth place as Oahu, Hawaii, which goes in direct contradiction with the accounts of Taiwan's history books, which say the revolutionary was born in Guangdong, China. In response, the KMT explains that Dr. Sun indeed obtained U.S. citizenship in the early 1900s, but it was an arrangement of convenience for his revolution activities. Sun's birth place was deliberately changed to Hawaii to facilitate his application for the U.S. citizenship.
