KEEP RECEIPTS TO PROTECT ONE'S RIGHTS
And next time you purchase products online, make sure you keep the receipts in case you run into similar situations. An individual recently spent a large sum of money ordering cosmetic products on the Internet.
To her disappointment, the retailer refused to issue her a refund after she discovered that the items were defects. To her defense, the Consumer Protection Commission is saying that the seller has already violated the consumer's rights.
Ms. Yang paid an online retailer 15,000 NT for this lot of cosmetic products.
Yang says that she'd previously purchased this brand of Australian products in Australia and had found them to her liking.
However, the products she purchased online were contained in yellowed packaging and some bottles were even leaking.
When she requested a refund, the retailer told her that she could only exchange the products.
Yang then turned to the Consumer Protection Commission, which contacted the seller.
The seller accused Yang of stirring up trouble and maintained that the products were still within their expiration dates.
He also refused to produce date of manufacture documents, and said that the leaking bottles were damaged during the shipping process.
By failing to label products with dates of manufacture, the seller was in violation of relevant cosmetic product management regulations.
The CPC says that the seller has violated consumer rights by importing the products into Taiwan and then repackaging and selling them online.
Under Taiwan law, consumers have an unconditional seven-day window to return products purchased online.
The CPC recommends that consumers request invoices as evidence in the event of disputes.
