Rising oil costs have triggered a chain reaction of price hikes for a series of products and services, including liquefied petroleum gas, airfare and train tickets. Meanwhile, many long-distance bus operators are also planning to cut down on discounts to ease the mounting cost pressure.

Small eateries are already complaining about CPC's plans to raise the price of 20-kilogram containers of gas by 10 NT.

Due to rising global fuel prices, the Civil Aeronautics Administration will be allowing domestic airlines to increase fuel surcharges on round trips by 150 NT for short-haul flights and 380 NT for long-haul flights.

Aloha Bus Company is the first domestic bus company to announce a ticket price hike.

The company's buy-three-get-one-free policy will be changed to buy-six-get-one-free on March 1st, and UBus says that it will also adjust special fares by 20%, or 20 NT to 30 NT, next month.

Taipei-Taichung fares will increase to 200 NT, while Taipei-Tainan and Taipei-Kaohsiung fares will rise to, respectively, 250 NT and 460 NT.

Taiwan Railway will also be adopting a new fare schedule on the 15th. While most ticket prices will decrease by 1 NT to 3 NT, Songshan-Banciao fares will increase by up to 13 NT.
