WAR AGAINST BULLYING
A new semester has just started this week in primary and secondary schools around Taiwan, and this time educators generally put the focus on the nationwide campaign of anti-bullying, for which the Teacher Chang Foundation, a 42-year-old social organization specializing in youth counseling, also steps in to offer their help.
It's been 42 years since Teacher Chang Hotline launched the counseling service.
This year it is also joining the anti-bullying effort on campus.
Tu Chi has volunteered at the service for 25 years and noticed that most children phoned them because they faced problems from relational bullying, while some faced physical bullying.
But often these children asked how to handle the issue and related legal questions.
Some parents were asking help over the Internet for the solution when their children were victims of bullying.
Teacher Chang Hotline pledged earlier to join the anti-bullying campaign.
This year, it will organize 280 workshops nationwide to assist teachers and students and it hopes that more schools can contact them so the resources can be better utilized.
