Seminar on Absentee Voting
An international seminar on absentee voting system was held in Taipei on Wednesday, and during the discussion, Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission,
Chang Po-ya clearly expressed her stance against absentee voting for prisoners, stressing that there will be serious difficulties to implement it here in Taiwan.
Ministry of Interior has been promoting the absentee voting system in the 2012 presidential election.
As the host nation of the Association of Asian Election Authorities, an international academic symposium is held in the morning, where experts from India, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea gathered at the event to share their experiences in dealing with absentee voting.
According to Minister of Central Election Commission Chang Po-ya, countries like India, Japan and South Korea have absentee voting system in place but they exclude prison,
because it is hard for prison police to carry public confidence and for inmates to get transparent information on candidates.
Through the symposium, election authorities from different countries discussed the factors that influence the success of absentee voting system and shared their experiences with their counterparts in other countries.
