FIRE LANES TURNED INTO GARDENS
While upgrading the household sewerages in the area, the Taipei city government's Sewerage Systems Office has also renovated 461 fire lanes throughout the city. By inviting children in the neighborhood to paint the alleys, they have turned the dark and messy sites into beautiful gardens. Here on CTS, let's have a look.
Children cover the cement walls in colorful paintings of peacocks and other animals.
Laughter fills the narrow alley as everyone runs up and down the lane, which is blanketed in beautiful mosaic tiles.
The alley, which is located off of Xinglong Road in the Wenshan District, was once a dark, dirty place.
Long-time borough residents took it upon themselves to clean out and beautify the lanes, and have planted flowers and grass around the neighborhood.
Children now have a place to play, and the fire lanes have become a unique backyard of sorts.
Here, area residents can relive happy memories from their youths.
