Pick Before Purchase
The Department of Health is suggesting consumers to carefully observe the items sold at the New Year's goods market. Out of the randomly inspected marinated foods, 20 percent of the products have failed to meet the required standard, while some of the selected preserved fruits have been found to have a threatening level of artificial substances in them.
Department of Health discovered that the preserved fruit seller called Liu Chung-ji, located on Ningpoxi Road, sells substandard goods.
The amount of artificial favoring of the samples exceeds the standard by more than 40 times.
According to the store, all the substandard products have been removed from shelves and destroyed.
The Department of Health also found out that the marinated vegetables contain excessive food preservative.
The marinated vegetable sold by a grocer in Huguang market has 6.2 times more food preservative than the allowed value.
Therefore, the Department of Health reminds consumers to be smart when choosing New Year's goods. The tips are to choose those with complete packaging and labels.
17 of the 85 sampled goods are substandard. In other words, 20% of the goods are below standard.
