Remembering Tainan County
With the upcoming merging of cities and counties, the Tainan County Government, which was established in 1946, will be part of history after December 25th this year. To celebrate its existence and influences, a museum will be established to remember its 65 years of self-rule.
New cultivators were one of the main attractions at the 1962 Agricultural Expo, which was held in Tainan County.
As Taiwan was an agricultural society at the time, the program also included a cow-breeding competition and agricultural service performances.
The Tainan County Government was founded in 1946, and was headed by a succession of two appointed magistrates, eight elected magistrates, and two acting magistrates.
Much of the county's public infrastructure has agricultural or irrigational ties.
While processing more than six decades' worth of news clippings, film footage, and historical documents,
the Cultural Affairs Department discovered that Tainan County originally encompassed what is now Yunlin and Chiayi County,
which explains why the seat of the Tainan County Government was established in Hsinyin.
The county government hopes to construct a museum to house the archival materials, so that history won't be forgotten.
