The Most Expensive Fruit
How much would you pay for a banana? A farmer in Nantou County has been selling egg bananas at the price of 250 NT dollars per kilogram, which is two times more expensive than the prime quality red persimmons. Here on CTS, let's find out why the egg bananas are so valuable.
The special breed of banana is with green skin and shaped like an egg.
The fruit is pungent and is only 1/3 the size of average bananas.
However, it is priced at 200 times the common bananas at NT$250 per kilograms versus NT$13 per kilograms.
Even the top grade red persimmons are only priced at NT$130 per kilograms.
Still, many praise the texture and the taste with the flesh more yellow than other bananas and texture more firm.
This type of banana trees needs to be planted of at least 2 to 3 meters apart.
The little amount of harvest per tree makes this breed of banana the most expansive fruit.
