In ensuring our rights as buyers, the Consumers' Foundation has conducted a test, by taking 12 samples of moisture-wicking apparels, to determine if its quality and function match its price. To our surprise, the answer is no.

The prices for moisture-wicking apparels sold on the market vary greatly but one would not know if it works after making the purchase.

The test shows water dripping from a certain height, indicating that the bigger the water drop is, the better the moisture absorption.

The two shirts show roughly the same result.

But the white shirt on the left only costs 125 NTD and the grey one on the right is priced at 1,000 NTD.

The Consumers' Foundation did a random test in the Greater Taipei area and found that the cost and performance ratio in many products are not reasonable. Therefore, the Foundation suggests consumers to choose clothing made from profiled fabric, such as "COOLMAX" or "Coolplus", which are proven to absorb water. Usually clothes made from such fabric should stay away from the use of softener, which may affect its performance.

Since the government doesn't have a regulation on the certification or classification of moisture-wicking shirts, the prices of such clothes do not actually reflect their performance.

Therefore, consumers should double-check and compare prices before buying.
