Anti-fraud Hero
A post office worker in Taichung County has been preventing scams by paying a little extra attention to those who are eager to withdraw a great sum of money at one time. For the past ten years, he had successfully thwarted more than thousands of scam attempts and secured around 6 hundred million NT dollars for the victims.
From the surveillance camera image, we can see the old man was eager to withdraw all the 800 thousand NT dollars out of his account while two female post office workers are trying to persuade him not to do so because they suspected that he could be tricked by fraud criminals.
Similar cases happen almost everyday in the post office since fraud crimes are widespread and that's why post office workers play an important role in times like this.
A post office worker, Chen Hui-Zhe, has been fighting against fraud crimes for the past ten years.
Once he notices people who appear to be nervous while trying to withdraw a large sum of money, he would ask them what their purposes are and if they know where the money will go to.
That's how he has prevented more than one thousand fraud crimes and saved at least 6 hundred-million-NT-dollars.
As a crime stopper, he has also received numerous threatening from scammers.
However, Chen said, he felt he's responsible to help secure people's money, and the happiness of helping people has overcome his fear.
Also he said, to avoid being targeted by scammers, people should never give out personal or financial information to someone they don't know and always destroy documents such as bills detailing personal information on them.
