Renovation Sparking Concerns
Tainan City government's move of revamping Dr. Thomas Barclay's Park is sparking concerns among environmentalists, who believe that the alteration will affect the habitats of fireflies. They are now calling out to the government to reassess their decision, in hope to maintain the current ecosystem.
Located downtown Tainan, Dr. Thomas Barclay's Park is a great place for local residents to hang out and exercise.
Besides its beautiful environment, the park has rich ecological resources. But the renovation project of the city government may indirectly affect the habitats for fireflies.
Therefore, local environmental groups launch an alliance to safeguard fireflies.
Hopefully, through the public petition, the city government could pay more attention to the issue.
While it takes a lot to strike a balance between renovation and maintaining original ecology, giving the public direct access to fireflies is also a way for them to learn how to preserve the ecological environment.
