Fire Drill to Prevent Danger
A large fire drill was carried out by CPC at its oil refinery in Houjin of Kaohsiung yesterday, which not only simulated the fire rescue process but also included scenarios of public protests. The event was intended to ease the fear of local communities after July's massive fire accident in Yunlin, though the residents still prefer to have the facilities relocated.
The oil refinery plant of the CPC in Houjin was simulating a fire drill. The automatic fire-extinguishing sprinkler system started immediately.
Fire trucks came quickly with several water pipelines working at the same time.
The large drill not only contained the fire rescue process but also included the public protest that would take place every time the plant has a fire.
In light of the major fire in Yunlin, the Kaohsiung City Government carried the fire drill to avoid similar incidents from happening in Kaohsiung.
Although local residents are glad that the government actually pays attention to the safety of the petrochemical plant, they hope that the CPC relocates the plant in 2016, as which can truly relieve their worries.
