Dangers of Apple-only Diets

In a bid to lose extra pounds in a short time, some would attempt an apple-only diet for three consecutive days, only to find themselves end up in hospitals. Doctors warn that eating apples on an empty stomach would enhance secretion of gastric acid, which may eventually lead to ulcers.

Uninformed celebrities often tell audiences that eating apples can help one lose weight.

One dieter that ate nothing but apples for three days ended up in the emergency room with severe stomach pains.

According to doctors, dieting by only eating one type of food will lead to malnutrition. Furthermore, excess consumption of apples, which have high potassium chloride and sugar content, can lead to heart and kidney problems.

Consuming overly sweet or overly sour fruits on an empty stomach can stimulate gastric acid secretions, which can lead to gastritis or ulcers.

Doctors say that people can shed two or three kilograms by eating only apples for several days, but that they are actually only losing water weight.

Apples contain less than 100 calories, but dieters should consume a balanced diet of at least 1,200 calories per day to avoid harming the body.
