Weight Lost, Life Lost
By losing weight, she lost her life.
A Kaohsiung nurse died after taking Reductil, a kind of weight loss product, for a whole month in order to slim down rapidly. According to her colleagues, besides taking the pills, she ate very little and only drank weight loss tea. Doctors are advising people to consult professionals before taking on such a drastic measure to get thin.
In order to lose additional pounds after pregnancy, for a month, Ms. Wei had taken Reductil and weight loss tea and had eaten little.
Even though she had lost more than 10 kilograms, she didn't realize that such approach would kill her.
She was sent to the hospital after she fainted suddenly and was dead before the ambulance reached the hospital.
After looking into her medical records, doctors said that Ms. Wei had heart problems and shouldn't have taken any weigh loss pills, especially when such violent approach would only increase health risks.
Though foreign studies show that Reductil contains an ingredient that would increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes, the drug is still available on the market in Taiwan.
Doctors suggest that people who want to lose weight through medication should seek medical advice before doing so.
