Annual Matzu Festival
The 7th annual Matzu Festival has kicked off in Taipei, and 21 Matzu statues from across the island are gathering together to join the festivity. Let's take you to the scene to see thousands of worshippers taking part to witness and to participate in the traditional march.
Folk and acrobatic groups from 21 temples in Northern Taiwan play gongs and drums to welcome Matzu statues' arrival in Taipei City. Most temples follow the traditional steps when the statue is carried into an establishment, but each in its own fashion and style.
The 7th annual Matzu Festival of Northern Taiwan has 22 Matzu statues from 8 counties and cities. They are to be housed in the former address of the Matzu temple in Taipei, which is located in the 228 Peace Memorial Park.
These statues all come with different backgrounds and styles while one has been around since the Ching Dynasty.
It's a rare occasion for them to get together and an even more precious occasion for worshippers.
Through various cultural exchange activities, it is hoped that the generous and protective spirit of Matzu can be carried forward and passed on.
