Dangers of High Heels
Though most women love the glamour and added height of wearing high heels, some of the dangers of strutting around in these shoes aren't very pretty. If heels are worn over long periods of time, such as in the case of this dancer from Taichung, critical and extremely painful injuries may occur.
When this woman ruptured her Achilles tendon, the injury was so serious that she could not refrain from crying out in pain. She was unable to walk, and surgery was required in order to help her tendon heal.
What was the cause of this severe injury? A quick twist of the ankle while wearing high heels. This former show girl often stood and danced in heels for long hours, constantly straining her tendon and making it susceptible to injury.
For those who constantly use their legs, whether in dancing or playing sports, doctors warn that wearing heels can place additional pressure on the Achilles tendon. It is advised that women frequently rest their legs and also soothe strained muscles with ice packs to prevent further damage.
