Do you know the names of your grandparents? What about their birthdays? Shocking statistics have shown that, despite our appreciation for the impact that grandparents make in our lives, we don't know very much about them.

Taiwan's very first national Grandparents Day will be celebrated on the 29th of August, in honor of the increasingly vital roles that they play.

This young woman and her grandmother have an extremely close relationship. They live together, dance together and volunteer together while enjoying each other's company.

However, according to a research report, this 23 year-old lady is an exception among the Taiwanese population. A survey by National Chung Cheng University's Department of Adult and Continuing Education, which was conducted at 3,800 homes of three-generation families, revealed that only 36% of grandchildren know their grandparents' names, while over 60% have no idea when their grandparents' birthdays are.

The government has designated the last Sunday of August as Grandparent's Day in an effort to encourage greater bonding between the generations. In response, family education centers in 25 cities and counties will host a special "Grandparents and Grandchildren" summer camp in celebration.
