Immune Deficiency And Shingles
Make sure your children are getting the rest they need.
In Taichung, an 11-year-old girl has been staying up late regularly and because her immune system is not strong enough, she ends up contracting shingles on her face, around her eyes.
Doctors say if not treated properly, this illness can cause visual impairment.
This photo of an 11-year-old girl shows her forehead, nose and eyebrows are red with blisters appearing one after another.
It is as if a line has extended across her face as in serous cases there are festering sores as her whole face seems to be red.
Her mother was quite anxious and quickly took her to a major hospital for treatment.
The diagnosis was shingles, which affected her eye and optic nerve.
The doctor said treatment would take seven days as normal rest is going to be needed.
Because of summer vacation, and going to bed a little later, one girl joined a music festival and sang and danced and became too tired.
Later, staying up too late decreased her immunity leading to a viral infection that affects her nerve endings.
As long as there is a place with nerve endings there is a chance of shingles.
Generally it involves the body and mouth as facial nerves are at relatively low risk though when it affects the face and comes close to the eyes, one must immediately visit a hospital.
Otherwise, it can affect the eye, and in the worst case, cause blindness.
