Medical experts in Taiwan have successfully saved the life of a ten-month old baby girl from Hong Kong who was born with a congenital lung condition.

Yin-Yin smiles as everyone around her showers her with blessings. Several days ago, she was on a respirator and unable to breathe on her own.

The ten-month old infant was born with an underdeveloped right lung and an abnormally narrow left respiratory tract. As a result, she often had difficulty breathing.

If untreated, her condition could have led to heart and developmental problems.

Hong Kong lacked the medical expertise to treat her, but an international medical center arranged for her to travel to Taiwan on a medical charter flight earlier this month.

Over the course of three surgeries, a medical team installed stents in her reparatory tracts so that she could breathe on her own.

Doctors say that her condition is rare, but remind parents to seek immediate medical attention if infants have trouble breathing.
