A Taipei County vegetable wholesaler recently spent NT$2 million filming a firefly documentary.

He says that he has beautiful childhood memories of a world filled with fireflies, and therefore spends all of his free time for the past two yearts documenting the life cycle and habitats of fireflies.

As the sun sets, fireflies start glimmering.

Chang Po-chun grew up next to Taipei's Rongxing Garden, and says that fireflies could be found all along Mingquan East Road when he was a child.

When he was in high school, Chang began researching the life cycle and habitats of fireflies.

Chang earns a living as a produce distributor at a traditional market,

and says that apart from his working hours of 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., he spends all his free time documenting fireflies.

He has fought to preserve the natural habitats of fireflies, and spent two years creating an eco-pond on a terraced field in Taipei County's Shimen Township.

He and his wife practically lived by the pond for over a month, but finally succeeded in getting enough footage to produce a firefly documentary.

The film is aimed at helping the public understand the importance of conservation.
