Taoyuan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station has spent 7 years to complete and cultivate 17 types of indigenous orchids.

One of them, the "white crane orchid" is especially admired for what appears to be a Chinese character meaning person on its petals.

With the cultivation project, plans have been made to mass produce the orchids and export them to the international flower market.

Oh how these beautiful white flowers resemble cranes taking flight.

Another unique feature is the appearance of the "ren" character on its petals.

This new type of orchid is the result of the 7-year-long Taoyuan cultivation project of the agricultural industry.

The agricultural cultivation organization says that the "crane orchid" belongs to the family of the indigenous Calanthe Formosana.

Originating from Central Taiwan's lower altitude areas, the flowers started to decrease in numbers as human interference increased.

In these 7 years, the agricultural cultivation organization has collected different types of seeds and finally were able to reproduced the flowers in greenhouses.

The flowers are suitable for growing in pots or for decorating vases.

Although the "crane orchids" are smaller than most orchids,

its unique features still draw much appreciation.

Because of this the cultivation organization is planning to team up with repoduction industry universities in mass producing the orchids and bring them to international flower markets.
