Inedible Cherries
More than 10 tons of US cherries have been blocked from entering Taiwan this summer for containing excessive levels of pesticide. The Department of Health has expressed its concern to the US authorities and demanded that the issue be addressed by early next month. Failure to comply may lead to import suspension.
The bright red cherries looks delicious and tasty for it is the peak season of cherries that many housewives love to purchase for their families.
however, two more shipments of U.S. cherries were confiscated at the local custom for the 3.6 tons of cherries were detected with residues of pesticide Malathion and Fenpropathrin; they are the 4th and 5th shipments of U.S. cherries to be confiscated for the same reason, however, those fruits were not available for local consumers to purchase.
Doctors pointed out, it is easy for the stem area to have excessive pesticide residue, which the consumer should use a brush with soft bristles to clean while rinse the fruit under running water
The Department of Health has made a request to the U.S. to monitor its agricultural export or the government might ban cherry import all together from the U.S.
