Ceramic Plate Hakka Style
A community in the Erlun township of Yunlin distinguishes itself with a unique kind of ceramic doorplates. Residents say that aside from reflecting the local Hakka culture, these plates also add a sense of artistry to the environment.
The ceramic plate that decorates the doors of the community feature a roaring lion.
Apart from its aesthetic value, the plate also serves to deepen the roots of Hakka culture within the community.
The Laihui community is located in Yunlin County's Erlun Township, and has played an active role in promoting Hakka culture in recent years.
In the past, homes were identified by a wooden plaque bearing the name of the head of the household.
As a result, many homes in the community have existed without doorplates or any other type of identification for decades.
The residents feel that the unique lion door plate beautifies their community, and say that the opportunity to produce their own plates helped strengthen their relationships with one another.
