Hero Lu Comes Home
Ending his fantastic run at Wimbledon, Lu Yen-shun, the first Taiwanese tennis player ever to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal, returned to the homeland on Friday. He was greeted by a huge crowd of cheering fans at the airport.
Lu Yen-hsun was greeted by a huge swarm of fans after clearing customs. Although the rabid enthusiasm of the crowd appeared to make him a little nervous, Lu acknowledged them with a wave. During his press conference after landing, Lu thanked everyone for their support and his mother also made her first public appearance.
Mrs. Lu has traditionally kept a low profile and rejected all interview requests during her son's Wimbledon run for fear of changing his luck. Although she only spoke for a few seconds, it was clear that she was enormously proud of Lu.
Having reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals, Lu is expected to break into the Top 50 of the world rankings. Lu will only be staying in Taiwan for three days before flying to Germany to prepare for next month's U.S. Open.
