Tea Chain Faces Accusation
People are accusing Taiwan's acclaimed A-hau-shen tea chain for adding cancerous substance, called coumarin in their black tea. The representatives of the company are calling the blast a false claim. Now, here on CTS, we have the latest for you.
You won't be able to get this one liter cup of black tea for 25NT at the A-hau-shen tea store as of now. This once popular tea chain,is facing some deadly accusation, and the stores are holding off on selling the black tea until further clarification.
A recent media report shows that the black tea contains up to 95 percent coumarin, which experts say can cause cancer, and can greatly increase the risk of stroke. Coumarin is usually used for medical purposes and is found in rat poison. In their defense, A-hau-shen's rep is showing their own test results, admitting vanilla powder is added to the tea, but not coumarin.
The company is taking the tea leaves for another round of examination, this time, it will focus on inspecting coumarin and the pesticide that may be found on the tea leaves. With 4-hundred stores across Taiwan, and hundreds of cups of tea sold per day in a single store, the test outcome will indeed jeopardize the fate of the massive tea chain.
