THE CAUSES OF PANCREATIC CANCER?
Through analyzing 6,643 patients from 11 trials, researchers found that eating an extra 50g of processed meat, approximately one sausage, every day would increase a person's chance of getting pancreatic cancer by 19%.
Cancer Research UK said the risk of developing pancreatic cancer in a lifetime was "comparatively small", which is around one in 77 for men and one in 79 for women. However, it has poor survival rates and thats why it is important to understand what can increase the risk of the disease.
Besides eating processed meat, there are also other studies which suggest that smoking and obesity are also the main risk factor for people to get cancer of the pancreas.
Researchers also indicated that there is strong link between eating red and processed meat and the chances of developing bowel cancer, which is why The World Cancer Research Fund advises people to limit their intake of red meat to 500g cooked weight a week and avoid processed meat altogether.
