LONELINESS LINKED TO SLEEP QUALITY?
A recent survey indicates that feeling isolated and disconnected from others may keep one from getting a good night's sleep, which may partly explain why loneliness has been associated with health problems.
Researchers found that people who have one-point increase in the loneliness scale have around an 8% increase in sleep disruptions and restlessness.
Researchers said while humans have evolved with the tendency to protect against potential threats, it makes sense that those who feel alone may wake more easily throughout the night.
Since it is already been proven that sleep disruption can affect one's metabolism, and potentially cause other health problems, experts are encouraging people who feel isolated to start rebuilding social connection in an emotionally safe way, for the sake of their mood and health.
