To fight for the unfair treatment of Taiwanese Taekwondo athlete Yang Shu-jun, who was disqualified at the 2010 Asian Games, the Sports Affairs Council has appealed the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sports. However, the chairman of the Chinese Taipei Taekwondo Association said that he believes the case should be withdrawn over fears that the result may affect Taiwanese athletes' rights to take part in future games. The disqualification incident involving Taiwanese taekwondo athlete Yang Shu-chun at the Guangzhou Asian Games last November sparked widespread outrage in Taiwan. In order to protect Yang's rights, the Sports Affairs Council and Yang have appealed the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sports, which is likely to schedule a hearing on August 9th and 10th. However, just right before the hearing, the new chairman of the Chinese Taipei Taekwondo Association Hsu An-jin said that if our athlete did anything wrong, the case should be withdrawn. "Athletes are innocent, because she (Yang) didn't purchase the sock by herself. The socks are given by the Chinese Taipei Taekwondo Association. She put on the socks with the electronic sensors and fought in the games, and now she has to take up the heavy responsibility." Hsu says he doesn't hope that incident will affect Taiwanese athletes' rights to participate in future games, because according to the information provided to the Chinese Taipei Taekwondo Association, it is shown that official documents mentioning the prohibition of certain electronic sensors were distributed during the leaders' meeting before the games. Therefore, appealing the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sports may not yield the desired results for Yang, and the World Taekwondo Federation may likely to ban Taiwanese athletes from participating in 2014 Olympic Games. On the other hand, Yang's father was surprised to know the report, saying that he hasn't received any information from the authorities or from the Chinese Taipei Taekwondo Association. Sports Affairs Council (SAC) said that the Chinese Taipei team didn't get the official documents, and if there's no new evidence, the Council will never withdraw the case. SAC Vice Minister Chen Shi-kuei said that they understand the Chinese Taipei Taekwondo Association's concern, but the council will continue to fight for the dignity of Yang and other Taiwanese athletes. Premier Wu Den-yih also showed his support over SAC's decision, saying that the athletes have every right to file complaints over the disqualification, and the government and SAC will wait for the Court of Arbitration for Sports to make the final ruling.
