CONTROVERSY OVER NEW INSURANCE POLICY
Starting July first, you may have to offer an income certificate before buying new insurance products, because of a new policy from the Financial Supervisory Commission to better regulate the insurance market.
However, some lawmaker considered the move unnecessary, saying that it may cause inconveniences for consumers.
Buying insurance policy is not just a guarantee, but a way of investment or saving tax.
Rumor has it that a rich guy had 500 policies at one time.
But starting from July, if one's policy premium is far more than one's annual income, one would need to present financial statement.
According to the practice of financial underwriting, if an insurer's accumulated insurance fee exceeds 30 percent of his or her annual income and the premium is over 20 times of the family income in a year.
Or one buys two policies within three months.
They need to present financial statement to prove they're financially capable of their purchase.
However, lawmakers think it's a disturbing measure as buying insurance is a far cry from applying for a credit card.
Insurance companies believe the measure could affect the rights of those with high premiums.
Financial Supervisory Commission says the practice of financial underwriting is to avoid people from taking illegal advantage of insurance.
While not everyone is required to show their financial statement, the commission is going to discuss with insurance companies about how to implement the practice to ensure the rights of policy buyers.
