Academy Award winner Ang Lee had a very special guest this week in Taichung, where he is currently shooting his first 3D film, "The Life of Pi." President Ma Ying-jeou visited the acclaimed director on the set on Thursday, and was treated to an exclusive preview of parts of the highly-anticipated new movie.

Director Ang Lee is now shooting the film, Life of Pi, an adaptation of the novel about a 16 year-old boy who survived a shipwreck, while stranded on a boat in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger.

With the story set on the ocean and small islands, Ang Lee has been searching for suitable sites for filming, and finally decided to shoot the film in India and Taiwan.

The film is currently in the making at the Shui Nan airport in Greater Taichung area.

President Ma Ying-jeou visited the studio, while viewing some of the clips of the 3D movie.

President Ma also said that last time a Hollywood film was made in Taiwan was 45 years ago, and he hoped that the next film does not take that long.

Still, the president said he's very proud that domestic film industry has the ability to work with international film production companies, while expressing his hopes that Lee's new film can attract more international film makers to shoot their films in Taiwan.
