Academy award winning director Ang Lee came back to Taiwan earlier this week for the production of his latest film, "The Life of Pi." According to the director himself, over 70% of the filming will be done here on the island. Lee hopes to introduce the beauty of Formosa to audiences worldwide through the new project.

After "Taking Woodstock" last year, Taiwanese director Ang Lee is coming out with a new project this year.

This time, Ang Lee will be experimenting with 3D visual effects, but more importantly 75% of the footage will be shot in Taiwan.

The story illustrates the adventures of 16-year-old Pi, who gets shipwrecked and is stranded for 228 days.

As most of the story takes place on the sea and on islets, crew members considered Australia, Argentina, and eight other countries as the movie's backdrop.

In the end, the crew decided on Taiwan.

Ang Lee says he has surveyed the different counties and cities of Taiwan and expects to begin filming on January 3 and for the movie to reach theaters by the end of year 2012.

He says his biggest wish was to return to Taiwan and share the beauty and wonders of Taiwan with the international audience.
